Won Another SF Toy Auction

So today I won a big online SF toy auction.  It's for a red hotel building that's boxed, complete, with figures, PLUS extras too!  Hehe!

I promised myself not to join any auction anymore because I find them too much trouble for me.  I don't have much time to track its progress and trying to outbid each time even with auto bids, and it's kinda annoying (even if exciting) doing so.  I didn't buy the same on regular sale as they don't come with extras and usually cost more than auctions for the same buildings I've come across just prior.

This time I just put my maximum bid, or the highest price I'm willing to pay for the whole set and, whaddayaknow... I won it even after a sneaky bidder tried to bid at the last minute by about $50 dollars more than my bid before I won.  Sorry dude, my highest bid is just too high, knowing the demand for this listing.  Didn't want to waste time manually outbidding.  I let the system do the automatic bids for me.  Lol!

What's even yummier is that the auction site is currently running a 10% off promo on toys too. Lol!  So between my highest bid and how much I won it for, I'd say the difference was $95.  Awesome!

2018 Black Friday Purchases

It's that season again... and of course I made sure to check what kind of deals if any would be available online.

Suffice it to say I found and purchased the following brand new (prices rounded off) on amazon:

CC Ellwoods Elephant family
- from $35 to $21
- I don't buy figures at full price usually (since I'm more into accessories and buildings), especially at more than $30 when it's not yet exactly rare, so when the set went down to $21 and it's about the cost of used version online, it was a no brainer to get the set brand new at $21.

CC Ellwoods Elephant twin babies
- from $24 to $16
- I don't get why these elephant babies cost more than normal, so $16 brand new is a good deal.

Playmobil Guest Suite Building Set
- from $100 to $70
- This one has sat in my cart for more than a year so when I saw the discount, finally, I just went ahead and bought it.  Now amazon nor Playmobil sites no longer sell it themselves.  On amazon it's now by 3rd party sellers.

Playmobil Pirate Stronghold Building Set
- from $50 to $37

Gege Mini Doll x 3
- from $20 to $12 each
- It was my first time to see these dolls and they look absolutely adorable.  Lol!  I think from now on, they will be my SF figures' playmates. Lol!

CC Town Series Chocolate Lounge Set
- from $17 to $12

CC Deluxe Kitchen Set (discontinued)
- from $54.25 to $36.40

The elephant family usually gets sold used for the sale price I got it for, without the babies.  All in all, I'd say not bad.  Funny thing is, for some of these items, like the elephant figures and the Chocolate Lounge set, amazon listed it at their lowest price about 2 days before Black Friday and that was when I bought them (awesome!).  After that I noticed the price increased incrementally.

On the other hand, the Pirate set's price went down by only about 3 dollars the day or two before Black Friday (to which I didn't bite), then on Black Friday, the difference became more than $10 (for which I'm glad I didn't bite on the first minimal discount. Lol).

So I think I know now when to buy brand new the more current (but discontinued particularly) Sylvanian Families (SF)/Calico Critters (CC) releases... around Black Friday week.  Lol!

Now that I've a proper space set up for my toy photography, here's a little peek at what I've been working on for my FoxFire Fells blog...

I Now Have Two SF Kitchen Restaurant Sets...

The first isn't a complete set.  The second should arrive this month or next.
When I bought the first one, the listing did say it wasn't complete.  I wasn't too familiar with the accessories too and how important they would turn out to be for me, to need to be complete.

It had replacement tables and chairs (different design) and came with the Japan Brunch Stand/Shop set, etc..  Except that brunch set too isn't complete.  I still liked it when I saw it at the time though since I rarely see it listed online.

Soon after that I got the complete set of the Brunch Stand set.  But soon after I received the Kitchen Restaurant delivery, I realized I would have liked it better were it a complete set.  Doesn't need to be brand new as long as it looks hardly used. hehe!  I think that's when I started making sure any set I buy in the future must be a complete one 'cause it's a hassle trying to look for another and ending up with a duplicate.

Finally this month I bought the used complete set from a popular Japanese seller of SF items on eBay.  It cost about as much as another complete one that just ended its auction last weekend.  Both were listed at the same time... the one for auction and the one for a straight sale.  After the auction, I checked how much that went for and it's just about $5 (more or less) short of the cost of the straight buy one.

Since I hate joining auctions and figured the prices between the two weren't that much different, I finally bought the complete set without the hassle of bidding. Lol!

Not sure yet what I'll do with the incomplete set though.  It's a nice to have but re-selling is definitely an option, when I find the time to take pics and list that is.  (At the time I got the first set, I wasn't yet taking photos of my toy deliveries hence I can't post a pic of it right now.)

I look forward to receiving the complete one! =)

Anticipated: Sylvanian Families Cycling Adventure Set

screenshot from the Internet

I got this on my list and I'm already listed to buy it this next week.

It's the Cycling Adventure Set.  I thought there'd still be plenty of this set available online now after seeing several of it last year. But after I got the Campervan set recently and saw a bicycle included in the photo on its packaging, I looked for it and found it's from this set, which I can no longer find on any SF seller sites online.  Not even with the big box stores.  Wow.

Good thing the London Sylvanian Storekeepers store still has one available to sell to me and I'm buying it in the next week.  I already got the invoice.  Lol!

Anticipated: Recent Sylvanian Families Purchases

So I managed to get the following Sylvanian Families sets and figures recently.  They are all are on their way to me as of this writing or I may have received them already at the time of publishing this post.  All photos below are my screenshots of the pics from the sellers' listings.

  • costumed babies from the JP ToysRUs Fairy Tree Set.
          - I wanted the babies, but not the tree set. Lol!  So I was glad to see just the baby figures listed
for sale.  Haha!  It's kinda rare to find these sold separately.  In fact it's the first time I saw such
a listing for it.   I immediately purchased it.  I wouldn't say it came cheap though.  Oh well.
          Lol!

  • Flair Show Jumping set (complete).
         - This I got for maybe only 1/3 or less than 1/3 the price of what it normally goes for on eBay
(including shipping), and it comes with its box.  Perfect.  I like sets like these to come with its
box if possible so it's easier to track which piece goes with which later when necessary.  UK
contact already has this packed in their luggage.  They're arriving this October to visit and I'll
         get this order.  Yey!

  • Robinson Red Panda family
          - another set that's not easy to find at an affordable price especially with the baby.  I'd rather
buy whole families than hunt for missing members separately (too much hassle.  Lol).  I found
a used set that looks as if it's new still.  The thing with SF figures, I don't mind if I don't have
the box for it.  And I mostly buy non-figures primarily, with SF.  Maybe later I'll start getting
          more of the other families.

  • Epoch Japan Cake Shop Set
          - This one I found used but as if new.  Very awesome.  And once again, I got it (not from eBay)
for way less its usual listing price (on eBay).  So with shipping, it ended up being 1/3 the cost
vs eBay listings (not including the shipping fees on there).  Wow.  It usually goes for 3x more
or less on eBay, brand new with box.  As it's not one of my targeted key SF items to find/buy,
and I don't bake nor really eat cakes and processed sweets except at parties or dinners, I wasn't
willing to buy it for that price.  So when I saw how much this listing went for, I decided to snap
it up anyway as I've never seen it go for that reasonable a price.

I just like the concept and the design of this version the most, out of all the cake shop sets so
far that Epoch has released for their SF line.  This seems to be a 2006 release as per the
          amazon.co.jp site.

And what's even better, it came with 2 different baking outfit/cake accessory sets that's sold separately from this set.  Lol!!  See the baker figure at the corner + the other accessories and the waitress figure (both on the second pic above) vs. the listing of the their corresponding accessories sets I saw on amazon.co.jp below:

This means I don't have to go hunting/buying the two extra sets above.  I can't believe I got the whole thing plus some extra figures.  It's like killing several birds with one stone and at so much less than the usual prices for these items. Lol!

There's another separate set that connects to this cake shop building.. and it's not a kitchen.  However, I don't find it worth it at the price it's going for nor that interesting (yet.. Lol).

It's more like a nice to have for me rather than a must have so I can do without it.   Maybe another time, when it's at a fairer price.  At the time it was listed for more or less $150 to $200, like a building  gift set with accessories, so I don't think so.  hehe!

Anyway, I just hope this last item/listing that I purchased isn't one of those too good to be true stuff.  I'm also crossing my fingers that the package doesn't get damaged during shipping.  Ack.  It may not be fully complete with the fiddly other cake/dessert items maybe but I'm not too worried 'cause Epoch released so many different cake shop or cake accessories... The main ones are included and I'm not exactly a cake or sweets person, so that's good enough for me.  Hehe!  It is still quite a good steal having got this set + two, for a song!  Lol!  We'll see.
